A social media follower count widget shows your live follower numbers on your own website. One small strip with your Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook counts, pulled straight from each platform.

Right now those numbers sit on your profiles, where the people already on your site never see them. And a count typed into your footer by hand goes stale within a month.

This guide covers the setup with WiserNotify, the platforms you can connect, the free embed options, and when showing your count is worth it.

Should You Show Your Follower Count?

A follower count is social proof, and it works like reviews do. People trust numbers that other people created.

Show it when the number means something.

  • You sell to new visitors. New visitors want to know if other people buy from you. A real audience answers that.
  • You pitch sponsors or clients. Creators and agencies get asked about reach all the time. A counter on your site shows it upfront.
  • You want more followers. A visible count next to your profile links gives people a reason to follow you. There are more ideas in our social proof examples.

One thing to know. If the count is small, wait. Forty followers can create doubt instead of trust. Grow the account first, then turn the widget on.

Placement matters too. The footer, the about page, and sponsor landing pages work well. It is also one of the simpler best widgets for websites since it stays in one spot and does not interrupt anyone.

How to Add a Follower Count Widget

WiserNotify is a social proof marketing tool that puts follower counters, notifications, offers, and timers on your site. One pixel, any website platform, no developer needed.

Here is the video version, with each step written out underneath.

The video was recorded on an earlier version of the dashboard. Screens have moved around since, so the written steps below follow the current layout.

Ten steps, in order. About ten minutes, start to finish.

1. Sign up for WiserNotify

The WiserNotify signup screen with email, Google, Wix and Shopify options

Go to the signup page and create your account. Email, Google, Wix, or Shopify login all work.

2. Add the pixel to your site

The WiserNotify pixel page with the Copy Code button

On the pixel page, click Copy Code and paste it before the closing head tag of your site.

On Shopify, WooCommerce, or WordPress, skip the paste and use Install pixel using native app instead. The widget cannot load without the pixel, so do this before anything else.

3. Open the widget gallery

Opening the Widgets menu in the WiserNotify dashboard to create a widget

In the left menu, open Widgets under Notifications and click Start creating widget.

If you already have widgets running, the button sits top right as Add notification.

4. Pick Social media followers

Find Social media followers in the gallery and click Add.

A window asks for a name and the website URL where the counter should run. Pick a name you will recognize later.

Fill both in and click Create & Customize to open the editor.

5. Connect a social account

The editor opens on the Add list tab. This is where the widget gets its numbers.

Tick the platform you want and click Add. The integrations panel opens.

Click Connect on the platform, log in to your account, and allow the permissions it asks for.

Back on the panel, click Connected and add the page or channel you want to track. The follower widget guide covers each platform in detail.

6. Choose what each row shows

Close the panel and return to Add list. Click the platform, hit Select, and pick your page.

The profile link fills in automatically, so a visitor who clicks the icon lands on your page. Each row also has its own icon title, font, and color settings.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 for every network you want in the strip. Untick any connected platform you do not want shown.

Anything you cannot connect, type in by hand. Connected counts refresh on their own. Manual ones stay the same until you edit them.

7. Style and position the counter

The editor shows a live phone and desktop preview while you work through the tabs.

  • Click actions. Add a button and choose where it sends people, like your profile or a follow page.
  • Position & animation. Corner, center, or edge, set separately for mobile and desktop.
  • Style. Shape, colors, size, and shadow, so it looks like part of your site.

Each tab has its own Save, so save as you go.

8. Set data and timing rules

Data control sets how many platform rows show, and skip seen keeps returning visitors from seeing the same widget every visit. Worth leaving on.

Timing control covers the rest. A delay, exit intent, a scroll trigger, a loop with your other notifications, or a start date, expiry date, and specific days of the week.

A hide rule removes the widget after a set number of seconds.

9. Choose pages and targeting

Choosing display pages and targeting for the follower count widget before publishing

Click Next to reach the Display section. It runs on every page unless you narrow it.

Use Select pages to display notifications on for URL rules, and add extra domains if you run more than one site.

Advanced targeting options narrows it further by country, UTM, new or returning visitors, referrer, or a cookie.

10. Publish and turn it on

Click Publish. The widget shows in your list with an on and off toggle. Turn it on if it is off.

Then open your site in a private window so your cache does not show the old page. The counter should appear where you placed it.

Which Platforms You Can Pull Counts From

The widget pulls live numbers from Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitch, and TikTok. Facebook can show page likes and community size as separate rows, and YouTube shows subscribers.

One strip can hold several platforms at once, so visitors see everything in one place.

If you only care about one network, we keep separate walkthroughs for TikTok followers, LinkedIn followers, Twitter followers, and Twitch followers.

Free Ways to Show Followers Without a Widget

The platforms have their own free embeds, and for one account they can be enough.

  • YouTube. The official Subscribe Button embed can show your subscriber count next to the button.
  • Facebook. The Page Plugin adds a box of your page to your site, with the follower line inside.
  • LinkedIn. A follow button exists for company pages.
  • X. The follow button still works, but it stopped showing follower numbers years ago.

The limits are the same for all of them. Each one covers a single platform, loads its own script, and uses the platform’s styling instead of yours.

Fine for one network. Not so good when you want three counts side by side.

Why the Count Can Differ From the App?

Platforms round the numbers they display, so an account at 12,480 shows as 12.4K in the app while the widget may show the exact figure.

Counts also refresh on a schedule rather than every second. A brand new follower can take a little while to appear.

And platforms clear out fake and inactive accounts in batches. A small overnight drop usually means a cleanup, not a problem.

If the Counter Does Not Show Up

Check the pixel first. View your page source and search for wisernotify. If it is missing, the widget has nothing to load from.

Then check your own rules. A page condition, a schedule, or skip seen after you have viewed it once will each keep it hidden.

Still nothing, use the troubleshoot option inside your account or ask live chat.

Wrap Up

Connect your accounts once and the widget keeps the numbers current. No screenshots, no editing the footer every month.

Pick the pages where it helps, set it up once, and let it run.

The signup page is the first step. The other nine are above.
